Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Ephesians 4:23-24 NLT
During this time of social distancing I find my focus to be much more centered on my immediate “sphere of influence.” My home. I look at my children playing, squealing, learning, laughing, a lot of the time yelling, and though a lot of these moments have felt completely overwhelming… We are safe. We are focused on eachother. Our hearts and minds are open to connection. We play games. We get to eat every meal together, take walks just because, and for the first time in a long time, there are no real to-do’s there are only to-be’s.
We are present.
We are available.
We are renewed.
With each day that passes we will go a little deeper. Instead of becoming more and more distant we will grow closer and closer to the One whom is always there. We will grow closer to the ones we have been blessed with and our home will look a little more like heaven. I am declaring this over my life and I hope you will too because in the midst of all this uncertainty one thing remains, Jesus has overcome the world and will continue to do so. Our job is to cry out, to pray for those affected and to pray diligently over our homes and loved ones. We must let our prayers soak and saturate the places to dangerous for us to reach first hand and to let the Lord purify our hearts from the inside out.
We have the opportunity to let the wave of revival crash into our homes with reckless abandon, to let God rush in with the force of 1000 hurricane strength winds, and blow through our cities through the power of God alone. Let us be willing. Let our hearts be opened and our minds renewed. By God’s grace let us not neglect the gifts inside us. Reach out to your neighbors, love people from right where you are, and never ever stop praying.
