But Wait…This Hurts

Having a family of my own has forced me to look at what my family situation growing up actually looked like. We are now over 8 years into this whole parenting thing and I am realizing it is all just a case of the blind leading the blind. No matter how much we want to prove on social media and to our friends that we have this thing all figured out, we don’t, and our parents didn’t either. Heck, most of them still don’t. Some of us were faced with a tougher hand and I am right there with you. The things that happened during those times and how we coped to get away from those things were real and they will always be there, but it is no longer necessary to constantly lug them around. You no longer need to carry around years of abuse, heartbreak, addiction and trauma. Most of us do not realize that we have even been wounded. We are so used to carrying the dead weight of our pasts around that it has just become “the way we are.”

In order to see the grip of our pasts we have to actually step out of our pasts and into the future God wants for us.

“The Lord their God will save his people on that day as a shepherd saves his flock. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown. How attractive and beautiful they will be! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women.” Zechariah‬ ‭9:16-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God will not pour new wine into old wine skins. They would bust under pressure(Matthew 9:17) He wants more for you than that.

…but this is the thing.

It hurts and it is hard. It is consuming and takes a lifetime of tweaking and reassessing. Completely uprooting, changing and letting go of old thought processes, habits, and fears that have ensnared our hearts over the course of decades is HARD. Working on a broken marriage, apologizing to a friend, making the first step in reconciling a relationship with a family member is all very, very, hard.

“So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord. As a result, you have become an example to all the believers in Greece—throughout both Macedonia and Achaia. And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don’t need to tell them about it,” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Yep, once you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior you were saved but…

Crack open the Bible, anchor your feet in truth, take the counter cultural route, and let the refinement begin.🌟
